Quality TV for 2010 – pretty please

It’s almost the end of January and I’ve just now decided to think about what I’d like to see happen in 2010. These aren’t resolutions because resolutions suck unless you can keep to them. These are just daydreams that I have no control over and I won’t check myself into a padded cell on 31st December 2010 if they don’t happen.

Then end of all reality TV shows

Come on people this is long overdue. Wouldn’t you like to see some quality TV programming in 2010? I don’t watch them but I’m really fed up of hearing about them.

Ice stage - the reality

What is the appropriate footwear for snow and ice? I’m wearing my bovver boots today because I figured they are grippy enough to get me through the ice stage. I was wrong. They do a great job in the crunchy stuff but I still have to walk very carefully through the ice.

Slip sliding around I took a look at what other people are wearing. Are trainers really that great in the snow? A lot of Timberlands out today but surprisingly not as many snow boots as I’d expect. Do they work? They certainly look warm enough but, are they grippy? Could I put on a pair and walk through ice without a care? I’ve yet to see a pair that I feel I simply must have but, if they work I’m now willing to buy a pair.

The roads less travelled

As I walked to work this morning I cursed Lewisham Council for not gritting my road and the surrounding roads. Crunching through the powder I cast my mind back to a few weeks ago when we had to wait for the snow to melt around here. I understand that only major roads get gritted but if they were to just dump some grit on the pavement around here I’d do it myself. Well that’s what I thought this morning as I crunched down the hill and prayed.

As I slipped along Rushey Green this evening I cursed the well trodden roads. The well gritted pavements of this morning were now hazardous with sludge. The snow hasn’t been able to settle due to foot traffic. I grabbed on to railings and inched my way along Plassy Road. I was grateful when I crossed over to Sangley Road to see that the powder stuff was still around and people were walking almost freely.

Olla. Or as they say in Spain “All right mate”.

Last year I spent a week in Montegolf, Villamartin, Spain. I’d had a bad year what with depression and all the politics at work so when my partner suggested his friend’s apartment in Spain it sounded good.

whoopiI’m always preaching to people to be true to themselves but sometimes I forget to follow my own advice. I wrote an article a few years back about my experience with locks. I’ve always wanted locks but I’ve never had the patience with them.

It hit me recently just how stressed I get about my appearance. I’m not a girly girl, the whole make up, nails and glossy here means nothing to me. Yet, every morning I find myself dressing for other people. I work in place where people aren’t afraid to comment on your appearance. If I tie my hair back or plait it, people complain about the waste of good hair.  I have good quality here but what does it mean? And why does it give people the right to continually fondle and comment on my hair? When I straiten it people tell me to make sure I look after it this time. If it’s not my hair, it’s my nails. My nails grow long naturally and when they are at an enviable length they break. It doesn’t bother me. But the ladies who know better, tell me that I should take care of them and go to a salon, pay out big bucks to have then wrapped, painted, manicured. Whatever! Sometimes I feel like the office pet project.
