It’s almost the end of January and I’ve just now decided to think about what I’d like to see happen in 2010. These aren’t resolutions because resolutions suck unless you can keep to them. These are just daydreams that I have no control over and I won’t check myself into a padded cell on 31st December 2010 if they don’t happen.
Then end of all reality TV shows
Come on people this is long overdue. Wouldn’t you like to see some quality TV programming in 2010? I don’t watch them but I’m really fed up of hearing about them.
People taking their 15 minutes of fame and turning it into a long ting!
This relates to wish number one: The amount of so called celebs that have poured out of the Big Brother house is amazing, and now they’re famous for being famous.
It’s not like they have a modicum of talent like the people on the ‘X Factor’ and that other Simon Cowell show, or even people on YouTube. I’ve seen people on YouTube who have more talent than some of the people on all those reality TV shows including ‘I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.’
Let’s think about that piece of TV for a moment: They trot out these dusty celebs whose careers went down the toilet a long time ago and relaunch them on the public like they were Madonna or something. And then the viewing figures are off the charts. Who really watches this stuff? That brings me to my next point:
Revamp viewing figures
It’s time that BARB (Broadcasters’ Audience Research Board) in the UK and Nielson in the US came up with a better and more accurate way for recording TV viewing figures. Some of the crap that I’ve seen, still going strong after all these years proves to me that the handful of people selected to measure the average viewers viewing patterns are not average viewers. They’re aliens!
Who else would be interested in the never ending perils of the residents of Albert Square? Or want to watch people wriggling around in bugs in the jungle or on stage screeching like a toad with the uniformed notion that they can sing? I can understand aliens taken an interest in these things and forming the wrong impression of us humans but really folks: do you know anyone who participates in these ratings panels? If you do, please buy them a clue!
On a positive note Big Brother will close its doors this year. Bring on the decline of reality TV!

Not all bad Who knows you may get your wish. But X factor is big so I don't see that going anywhere anytime soon. And anyway you wouldn't have found Diversity if not for X Factor. |

Quality TV for 2010 – pretty please
