Each to their own – just keep it to your damn self

I like banter – who doesn’t? Twitter can be a great place to catch jokes and if you are following the right person, learn something new.

It can also be a source for consternation and anger as people tweet some offensive statements. I’ve seen tweef flare up over misunderstandings or people just deliberately baiting people. More time, I skate over those tweets.

Today though, someone expressed an opinion I can’t ignore.

Everyone is entitled to his or her opinions; I will never take that away from anyone, especially as I can be pretty opinionated when I am ready. But when you make nasty comments about another shade of black you know I can’t leave it.

I’m trying to understand the tweef between Ghanaians and Nigerians on my timeline when someone retweeted a tweet I took offence to. Before going off on a rant, I decided to check out this guys ‘body of work’. I mean that one tweet may have been taken out of context right? Wrong.

This mixed race guy doesn’t like dark girls and would never date one. Fair enough right? We all have different wants, needs and tastes. Good for us! People make the world go around.

Sadly, this douche bag elected to express his choice in a manner that was meant to offend someone. Like I said, I read all his tweets just to make sure I wasn’t being hypersensitive.

I mean this is the month when racism in football has reared its ugly head again. And then there’s the Stephen Lawrence case, where most of us are hoping his parents finally see some justice. So, yeah I had to check the old barometer to make sure my actions were appropriate before name-dropping.

SkeamzMusic tweeted the following:

“I’m jus gna throw it out der , I wudnt date a black girl , jus not my type , I tried it. Didn’t work.”

Nothing wrong with that, like I said we have different tastes. But then he went on to say this:

“When I say black girls I mean dark skinned sooty lookin bitches loooooooooooool”

“black girls dislike me cos I’m a lighty and dey havnt been fashionable to have as gf’s since 1994”

See my problem yet? What’s with the nastiness? If he’d said cocoa brown I wouldn’t have noticed.

I come from a large mixed up (some say fucked up) family. We range from cocoa brown to white and many shades in-between. We are very aware of racism and some of us have first hand experience of it.

If my younger mixed race brother had made a statement like that, I would have kicked him, so hard he’d be begging to go back into his mother’s womb.

My little brother prefers white women. Never discussed it – never had to, it’s his choice. My mixed race sister prefers black guys. Ditto. I’d like to think that if either of them felt the need to talk about their preferences, they wouldn’t be doing it in an open forum anyway. And they most certainly would not be using derogatory terms to describe the very people they spring from.

Some people treat Twitter like it’s Blackberry Messenger or Facebook, where you can drop some nasty words and it’s just your circle of friends you have to answer to.

Unfortunately for the very opinionated grime activist and producer SkeamzMusic he dropped his nasty words in the wrong place. Judging by his tweets he’s young and I have to shake my damn head. He’s the future? Hell no.

After realising that he’d upset some people he claimed it was just banter. How can this be banter:

“hahaahha I’m jus banterin , I’m waitin to be retweeted and cussed by a sooty”

“Bcos of rap videos dark skinned girls are bottom of the food chain , ders always a lighty and a latina …. Not a darkie doe looool”

“Black girls nipples ya kna ? Der like a really dark purple . I jus can’t do it”

“Dw black girls , I am joking …. I jus have preferances . Jus like some of u lot wen u say ud never date a white boy”

Someone needs to teach this guy how to express a preference without offending and alienating people. He clearly never made the debate team at school. He went on to comment that his tweets hit a nerve and that people take twitter too seriously.

It’s not that people take Twitter too seriously, it’s that people don’t like being called racist names. Idiot! (Want to say the ‘C’ word but trying to keep it out of the gutter).

A lot of mixed race people don’t identify as black and I respect that. I am hoping at this point that SkeamzMusic is one of those people though. How could you identify as black and carry on like that.

Don’t get it twisted, he’s not the first person I’ve seen tweet about ‘darkies’ and ‘lighties’, he’s just the last that I’ll let skate by. It’s safe to say I’m vex beyond words.

More tweets from the brain that is SkeamzMusic:

“Haha my tweets bout black girls hit a nerve ! …. Loooool people take twitter too seriously”

“Now if I wudda tweeted about hw I wudnt date white girls , she wudda patted me on the back”

“I notice wen blk people r racist to white people its generally deemed ok , why is dis ? Wat makes u better ?”

“Sumbody tell dese black girls stop tweetin me , I don’t care .”

“I do not have to fancy dark skin girls , its jus not my preferance . Der are some beautifal ones , der jst not for me”

“If I tweeted ergh white girls have no battys , piece of paper bum , u black girls wud be retweetin me like I was president”

I read this guy’s tweets and I have to say he comes over as an airhead. Looks like he has a kid with his white wife. I hope they aren’t teaching her the same shit.

My favourite tweet of this guy is this one
“My dad is dark skinned . Looool yet aparently I’m name calling .”

He come in like those racists who say I’m not racist, I know a black person.

He is truly clueless and not worth it.

you were right to call him on his comments. Don’t think he’ll learn from it though tbh.

Well his mum thinks the whole things been blown out of proportion. Explains why he don’t know no better.

“im taking the piss out of the whole situation tbh. its been taken wayyyy outta proportion.”

Naturally she’s gonna defend her own

“do you really believe for one minute those views are real????? ever heard of reverse sarcasm??”

    Bunch of jokers.
